When globetrotting luxury consumers stay home, they increasingly are surrounding themselves with a variety of augmented amenities according to experts such as Sondra Guffey in an article for JustLuxe FineLiving.
The luxury of staying home is evidenced by the growing popularity of fully equipped outdoor living areas, multipurpose entertainment rooms with everything from wet bars to billiard tables to home theater systems with several screens, and gourmet kitchens with plenty of room for guests to mingle while their hostess serves up recipes from around the world.
These consumers often seek to replicate the experiences they have enjoyed during their travels by outfitting bedrooms with luxury hotel caliber linens, building wine cellars with their own tasting rooms, and using glassware, ceramics and cloth napkins in lieu of paper plates and other disposable products when dining al fresco. Unique decor accents are found both inside the home and outdoors as they seek to recreate feelings from their favorite French bistros, Italian villas and Spanish courtyards.
Furthermore, these trends are not necessarily geographically dependent. For example, living in northern and mountain states has not precluded residents from taking their entertaining outside into outdoor kitchens and great rooms. According to Kate Bailey in an article on the subject for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, CO, "weather-friendly additions such as heaters and snowmelt systems" provide year-round use of the spaces.
As Guffey notes, the trend in luxury lifestyle to beef up amenities in their own residences has these consumers embarking on lifelong vacations at home.
