Walker Presents at 2008 SBA Women's Conference
Bozeman, MT
Speaking to an audience of businesswomen, Kitch Walker talked marketing, with an Italian twist. The annual conference hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration was held at Chico Hot Springs Resort in Pray, Montana May 7-8, 2008.
Walker, the president of Flat Earth Imports, engaged attendees with anecdotes and examples from cross-cultural experiences cultivating connections with the company’s vendors in Italy that metaphorically mirror how a small business owner can understand and approach his or her own marketing plan.
Riveting questions such as “Who makes the first move?” when one graduates from the usual handshake to the traditional Italian greeting of an air-kiss on both cheeks segued into discussions of personal selling and relationship-building. Walker also addressed identifying the purpose for marketing and the process that drives marketing against a backdrop of the evolution of his company and its focus on authentic Italian manufacturers, brands and products.
His final “Italian” thoughts for success for the conference participants included:
* Build meaningful, lifelong relationships * Pursue marketing with a passion * Don’t be afraid to enjoy life and have fun along the way
Walker has been a regular contributor at the SBA Women in Business Conference for a number of years, but this was the first time he closed his presentation with the Italian idiom “In bocca al lupo!” wishing the attendees good luck in their endeavors.
